Former Inec official stated he was forced by EFCC to make an Unfavourable Statement

One of the former officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) being tried for alleged unlawful gratification, Christian Nwosu, has told the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, Lagos that he benefited N30 million from a former Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.
However, when the counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) asked further questions regarding the alleged bribe, the retired  INEC Administrative Secretary in Kwara state, added that although he benefited N30 million but “not directly”.
Nwosu who was being cross-examined before Justice Mohammed Idris accused the anti-graft agency of forcibly extracting from him statements that indicted him in the allegation of bribery, adding that he was also coerced by the operatives of the commission to surrender his property worth N30 million and N5 million cash.

In his testimony during cross-examination, the embattled former INEC staff said an operative of the EFCC, Usman Zakari, threatened to hold him in detention if he refused to write in his statement what the operative would “like to hear”.
He said once Zakari was able to get him to say that he collected N30 million, he also dictated to him to write same in his statement. Nwosu went further to say that the operatives of EFCC in company of two armed mobile police then escorted him to the bank where he made a draft of N4 million in the name of EFCC before he was allowed his freedom.
“On the 28 of December, I was invited to EFCC, interviewed by one Mr. Moses and I made statements. He was about to let me go but he said his boss will want to see me. When Mr. Zakari came and read my statement, he said no, I have not written what he wants to hear and that he has signed my detention order form and was going to detain me and that even if I bring 10 lawyers, they won’t help me except I write what he dictate to me, he was going to keep me.
“He told me that Adedoyin had admitted collecting N28million and was released; that being a senior officer, there was no way I wouldn't have not have benefitted by collecting up to N30million (sic). He said unless I stated that I benefitted N30million, he would dump me in the cell. I quickly told him I benefitted. He dictated to me that I should write it; I did.”
Nwosu said Zakari also asked him to bring another draft of N1 million which made the cash collected from him N5 million.
The Nwosu also claimed that EFCC prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo, instructed Zakari to keep him in detention.
He said; “I knelt before Rotimi and he said: ‘Baba get up; I’ll only advice you to cooperates with us. He said he would not want me to go through the stress of litigation. He asked if I had landed property and cars. He said I should write out the property worth N30million that I had. He said he would ensure that I was convicted and jailed at all cost if I didn’t cooperate.”
However, Zakari disputed the claims that Nwosu’s statement was collected under duress or through any form of inducement. He said he took a risk by granting Nwosu bail on self-recognizance when the elderly man pleaded with him that he had no one in Lagos that can stand surety for him.
“Mr. Christian Nwosu was invited to our office on December 28 2016. I had an interview with Mr. Nwosu in respect of the charge before this court and he volunteered the statement. Before the statement, he was asked if he needed a lawyer which he said he was comfortable to write a statement. At the end of volunteering his statement, he was given a bail condition to produce surety to take him on bail. The defendant pleaded with me that he does not know anybody in Lagos and based on that and because it was 3 days to new year, I took a risk, gave him bail on self-recognizance.” Zakari said.
Zakari told the court that on three different occasions, he “took the risk of granting Nwosu bail on self-recognizance. However, he had to detain him on his last visit to the EFCC’s office because a charge had already been preferred against him and he had the duty to produce him in court.
Nwosu’s lawyer had contested the voluntariness of his statement when prosecutors sought to tender same in court as evidence in the case. He said his client was he was coerced, and induced by the commission to make the statement that indicted him on the charge. The allegation made the court to order for a trial within a trial to ascertain the voluntariness of Nwosu’s statement.
Nwosu was said to have received the money as part of a N23 billion bribe allegedly handed by a former Minister of Petroleum Resources Diezani Alison-Madueke, to some officers of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The accused and the third defendant, Yisa Adedoyin, had earlier pleaded guilty to collecting the money, and sought for a plea bargain arrangement with EFCC. However, Nwosu dumped the plea bargain agreement when he judge’s rejection of the terms of the agreement.
Adedoyin went ahead with the plea bargain, pleaded guilty to one of the counts of receiving N70 million from Alison-Madueke’s alleged bribe and was sentenced accordingly.
Nwosu was re-arraigned alongside another INEC staff, Tijani Bashir, on an amended six-count charge bordering on receiving gratification to the tune of N265 million.

N390m Vehicles For Lawmakers approved by Akeredolu

The Ondo State government has concluded plans to purchase vehicles worth N390 million for members of the state House of Assembly.

Although the government did not state the brand of cars to be bought and the unit price of the vehicles, it confirmed that it would purchase 26 units of vehicles for the lawmakers.

However, the budget approved by the lawmakers for the 2017 fiscal year, showed that the 26 vehicles meant for the 26 lawmakers would cost the state a total of N390 million, according to Premium Times.

The reason you should avoid eating bush meat

The Federal Ministry of Health has advised Nigerians to avoid eating monkeys, bushmeat and dead animals as doing so could open one to the risk of Monkey Pox disease.
A medical doctor and no fewer than 10 persons have reportedly been quarantined in Bayelsa as a result of the virus. The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, said this in a statement by the Director, Media and Public Relations in the ministry, Mrs. Boade Akinola, on Thursday.
Adewole said the disease neither had a cure nor a vaccine, noting, however, that there was no cause for alarm as it was mild.
The statement read in part, “He (Adewole) said the virus was mild and there was no known treatment and no preventive vaccines, hence the public should be at alert and avoid crowded places as much as possible.

He advised the public to avoid eating dead animals, bushmeat and particularly bush monkeys.” The minister also revealed that test samples had been sent to the World Health Organization (laboratory) in Senegal but the result was still being awaited.

He, however, called on Nigerians, who had symptoms of fever, back pain and rashes resembling chicken pox, to report to the hospital. The statement added, “The symptoms include headache, fever, back pains and in advanced cases, rashes bigger than those caused by chicken pox.”

Nigeria Army accuses Nnamdi Kanu have no means of lively hood..

The Nigerian Army says those who are following the leader of the now-outlawed IPOB group, Nnamdi Kanu, have entered one chance.
Speaking at the end of a two-day media conference on the military’s enhancement of human rights in Abuja yesterday October 5th, the Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Sani Usman, said Kanu is a man with no means of livelihood who deceives his followers using propaganda. He said this while reacting to allegations that the IPOB leader was in the custody of the military.

“There was an allegation that somebody went into hiding. Now, I can’t remember the day but in an interview on Channels TV, one of Nnamdi Kanu’s younger brothers said that he was in hiding and he knew where he was. And one lawyer came up that he has taken the Chief of Army Staff to court.

Now, who gave you the brief? You said you do not know where he (Kanu) is. Now, who gave you the brief? And the media is asking us where is Nnamdi Kanu? Why not ask the man that said so who gave him the brief to take people to court when he does not know where the man is? That is why those people following him have entered into a one-chance vehicle.

This is somebody standing trial in a criminal case. Sometimes, whether we like it or not, we want to stand against the truth. But no matter how long, the truth will come to pass on October 17.
This is an individual without a means of livelihood. I can speak eloquently. So what? If I can speak like him; I can also have my own group, that’s exactly what is happening. So, what is the essence of our education as a people? You know that somebody is in a criminal case, and you believe in him.” he said

Actor almost commited suicide due to his Stature

Kumawood actor, Don Little born Stephen Atanga has revealed that he nearly committed suicide after being despised by his biological parents following his stunted growth.

The 20-year-old actor disclosed that it got to a point in time when he had no option than to accept truth and reality about his stunted growth.
Thus, it became obvious that he’ll never increase in size although her older sisters happens to be a direct opposite of him. Simply put, they’re much taller and bigger than him.

He said:

“It got to sometime my parents despised me and never cared about me because my colleagues kept increasing in size but I remained where I was. I was contemplating ending my life”, he revealed during an interview on Angel TV.
“My other sisters are grown and bigger than me. I believe my size is the work of God which I have to be content with. I have not made any attempt to go to the hospital to find out if there is something wrong with me medically or not. I trust in God and commit everything to prayer”

Man kills family members and shared quote of moody people

A Lusaka man identified as Nshinka Kaputo, 34, has reportedly been detained by the police for shooting the mother of his child, Precious Manganisa, 26, last night after she’d gone to pick her daughter in Meanwood, Zambia.
Details released by close associates reveal that Nshinka shot Precious, an employee of Multichoice Zambia, 3 times outside their home over an unknown difference.
A pistol with 10 rounds of ammunition was recovered from the scene. The baby was also shot in the neck and the projectile was stuck in the neck.
It has been extracted by medical personnel at Fairview Hospital. The accused person is detained in police custody while the body is lying in UTH mortuary awaiting postmortem.

The incident occurred some moments after she made a Facebook post about moody people.

Popular Baby Positioners Banned by Mothercare,Tesco and Ebay due to the Death of Newborns in USA

A health watchdog has warned parents that baby sleep positioners can cause their newborns to suffocate following reports of 12 deaths in the US.The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in the US has issued a statement explaining the pillows – often called 'nests' or 'anti-roll' products – can cause babies to sleep in a position that could cut off their oxygen.
The products are supposed to help infants to snooze safely, however, at least 12 infant deaths have been linked to the items. All the cases reported in the US involved babies rolling from their sides on to their fronts and they subsequently stopped breathing.

Despite the body issuing the same safety warning seven years ago, sleep positioners are still being sold in stores and online in the US and UK.

They are currently available from John Lewis and Amazon. After being contacted by MailOnline, eBay, Tesco and Mothercare announced they are banning the controversial items.
A spokesperson for eBay said: 'Following recent recommendations by US authorities, items of this nature will now be prohibited from being sold on our platform.
'Our team will be informing sellers and removing any listings that contravene our policies.'
Tesco then followed suit, a spokesperson for the company said: 'We have removed these products from our website as a precautionary measure. These products were available online only, not in-store.
'These products were sold by a third party on the Tesco website, not sold by Tesco itself.' Just sad!

Hello Stella.I really cant believe that I am talking about Tagbo like this because he was not one who liked publicity.
Firstly I would like to address this whole razzmatazz about David killing Tagbo and that i said so,i never said but yes,i did call out Davido to know the whereabouts of Tagbo but i never said he killed him,i never used that word''Killed Tagbo''. Continue...The last time i heard from Tagbo was on Monday when i just got back from MFM Church praise and worship which took about 7-8 hours Around part 8pm to ask me where I was::I had invited him for the programme  but he didnt show up..he called and asked where i was and when i said i was home,he said he was coming over.I was tired but didnt want to sleep off because if Tagbo comes he would ring the bell.so i went upstairs to watch CNN to keep myself awake until he comes and for some reason i slept off and woke up by part 1am or 2am and as you know the normal ritual was to call your friends the next day when they are celebrating their birthday.
I felt bad that i had not called Tagbo because Tuesday was his birthday.I tried calling him but his number was switched off but i thought it was network and continued trying but it was switched off and i concluded that maybe his battery was down.
I sent him a text message to wish him Happy Birthday and i went to bed.
I woke up at5-6am to do my normal routine  and looked at my phone and there was no missed call or
reply to my SMS:They day went on and I kept trying his number but until 3pm his number was switched off..
I was out at the Bank when Tagbos childhood friend called me and said that he wanted to talk about tagbo,he was just asking random questions.
I told him i would call him back.I am aware that Tagbo was trying to do his Schengen visa so i called the guy helping him out to ask if she had heard from him but she said Tagbo was supposed to deliver some documents but had not.
I got home and called Kola back around 4pm and this was when Kola revealed to me that Tagbo was dead...T thought it was a joke because Tagbo does not drive carelessly,he doesn't fight,he is not one to be seen in a place where people are fighting..if he is angry he walks away.
I was confused.
I decided t call the mum to find out if he went to Anambra to see his mum like he said he would to collect some documents...So i called the mum and she said she had not seen Tagbo.
I sent the sister a message that i heard Tagbo was dead and she should help me find out if it was true.The sister replied asking ''how when and where'' and then i knew that she was unaware.So i decided to call my neighbour who was also Tagbos friend and my neighbour who was holidaying in Lebanon called me back and said that there was a bet of 200k and that Tagbo drank about 50 shots of tequila and i said that cannot be true.Tagbo cannot drink even a glass of hennessey because he has a light brain like me .
So a guy who cannot drink this much cannot finish 50 shots of tequila..Tagbo does not need 200k to do that.
He comes from a very wealthy background so he does not need that kind of bet,he is not hungry for that.I was shattered to hear such a news,I went into my office and sat down.
I tried to find out where Tagbo was and Kola said he had been trying his best to find out but that each time he calls the people would drop the phone on him or tell him they would call back.
So for one hour and despite trying severally,we had not gotten any info to where Tagbos body was or what hospital he was taken to...
Tagbos friend chucks made some calls and found out that Tagbo was taken to Lagos island.
Meanwhile someone who rented my bar told me he was with Davido at Shisha bar on Monday and then i asked him randomly ''oh then you must know tagbo'' cos Davido and tagbo are close friends and the only reason tagbo would be there is if Davido was there...that is on that birthday eve
The guy confirmed he met Tagbo and that was when he knew they were birthday mate and he also said they had fun and went from there to DNA to party..this was all before i heard Tagbo had died...so my impression then was oh Tagbo was having fun and that was why he hadn't gotten back to me..
I called the same guy when i heard tagbo had died and asked him to find out what happened and he said he was trying to but every time he called Davidos team and mentioned tagbos name they would drop the phone on him and this was what they had also done to anyone who calls and mentions his name.
Davido knew and his crew knew Tagbo was dead at as 3a.m in the morning and they did not contact anyone,Davidos PA Lati knows where Tagbo stay but did not go to the house to inform anyone.

After we had that Tagbos body was in Lagos island Davidos crew refused to give any info and this was about past 7pm.
I contacted someone who remembers seeing davido and tagbo and DNA and remembers there was a fight.
This person also told me there was a bet and said the same thing my neighbour said but said 30 shots and not 50.
According to what was said,Tagbo drank the tequila and got intoxicated and wanted to drive his car but Davido refused and said tagbo should drive with him..that was what i heard and that they drove to G12 beach and got out leaving Tagbo in the car all locked up and that one of the crew members came back saw tagbo gasping for air...this was the info they spread out there from a supposed eye witness.
He was taken to general hospital where he was confirmed dead and they left him there.....
We went there with Nabila and Mary who can confirm what was said...We were told that he was dumped and those who brought him ran away.
The doctor told us that when the nurse were trying to fix the card,the two people that brought him ran away and their footage could not identify those who brought him and ran cos they hid their faces with caps.
They refused to tell us anything,the medical director told us that because they ran away it was now a police matter and that we should go to the police station.
I posted online asking Davido why they abandoned Tagbo on my way to the police station because i was so angry and needed answers.
I sent Davido personal messages but he didnt reply until i called him out on the social media and he told me to take down the post and he would tell me what happened.I took down the post and told him to come to the police station but he never showed up..Tagbos family members came from far but davido and his manager did not show up.

Tagbos phone and shoes are missing and someone went on tagbos instagram and deleted all the videos he posted of being with davido on that day and eventually deleted the account.we quickly munched all the videos on snap chat...tagbo was with Dammy Krane,Davido and Asha asika.
Davido knew that tagbo was dead but kept quiet.He told the Police later that he would have spoken out if i didnt call him out on the social media..can you imagine.
Tagbo meant everything to a lot of people...his widowed mum who is recovering from an ailment ..I am pleading with anybody who has info on who drive tagbos dead body to the hospital to come forward...
We want to know what happened and how tagbo died.Davido we are not calling you a killer but we need to know hat happened to Tagbo,you owe him this because he loved you like a brother,he took you like a brother,do it for him and call out the people you assigned to drive him...Please.

Oxford University Student Found Dead On Roof Of Shopping Centre

 

The body of a promising Oxford University student has been found on the roof of a shopping centre.
The man has been named as Max Mian, a 19-year-old undergraduate at Brasenose College.
He was discovered on the roof area of Westgate shopping centre by builders earlier this week.
Thames Valley Police say his death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the coroner.
Tragically it has emerged the 19-year-old had just returned to the city to begin his second year at university.
Tributes have been paid to the student described as 'brilliant' and 'popular' by his principal.The Health and Safety Executive was notified of the death and a spokesman confirmed they were assisting police with the investigation.They will assist in finding out how Mr Mian got onto the building site after it had been locked down for the night and if he had fallen from a higher level and how he died way before his body was discovered on the roof of a new John Lewis department store.

The Multimillionaire Clothing store owner loses son to Porsche Crash

 

The retail tycoon behind one of Britain's wealthiest fashion empires is overcome with grief after his son was killed in a car crash.

George Simon died when his Porsche 911 Turbo ploughed into a tree in North Marden, near Chichester in West Sussex, on Saturday, but the news just only broke now.

The 32-year-old's father Peter Simon, the founder of Monsoon and Accessorize, is said to have been left 'devastated'.

Peter Simon started out selling coats on Portobello Road before going on to become on the country's most successful fashion magnates with an estimated worth of some £600 million.


His son was a businessman in his own right and worked as a successful property developer.

Mr Simon, who lived in London, is understood to have been in the car on his own at the time of the tragedy.

A source told The Sun: 'George wasn't a playboy, he hardly ever drank, didn't take drugs and was an experienced driver.

'It just seems he lost control of the wheel. He was developing a successful business career in his own right.'

A Sussex Police spokesman said the Porsche left the road and collided with a tree on Saturday afternoon.

The Kent, Surrey and Sussex air ambulance raced to the scene of the crash along the country road but Mr Simon was declared dead at the scene.
