Wole Soyinka revealed of being diagnosed with prostrate cancer

Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has revealed he was diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer in 2014.

Speaking to BBC, Soyinka revealed how his doctor helped him get rid of it with a great assistance from his wife.

He said “It hadn’t yet gotten to the stage where it was non-reversible and so (the doctor) gave us a number of guidelines. I say us because he wanted to make sure that my wife made sure that I followed it. He sensed that I wasn’t going to be a very good patient. So he spoke to her most of the time rather than me,” he said.

”There is no disease in the world any human being needs to be ashamed. I don’t see why people need to go to Canada, Europe to receive treatment which is affordable in this nation, it is a shame. The options I compared to other treatment I know about and I have seen in operation. Mine for me was an easy ride, uncomfortable in many ways but it is painless.”

How to advertise your blog

 Article from the BLOGSTARTER.COM

Promoting your blog is where I see the majority of bloggers fail. There are lots of great bloggers out there that no one has ever heard about, simply because they don’t know how, or just don’t want, to promote their blog.
The most important tip I can give you about promoting your blog is to not be shy about telling people about your blog!
I have heard from many bloggers who tell me that they don’t promote their blog simply because they don’t feel it is worthy of promotion. They say things like “I don’t have enough posts yet” or “I need to work on my site design first”.
Don’t do this to yourself! If you have put in the time to setup a great site and with great content, then you need to tell people about it. Be proud of the work you have put in.
So just how do you promote your blog? Well, it turns out the most effective methods of promotion are free!

1. Email marketing

A lot of the other tips on this list are about getting new readers to your blog. But if you want to build a real following you not only need new readers, you also have to keep first-time readers coming back!
This is where email marketing plays a big role. By collecting the email addresses of your visitors (with their permission of course), you can then notify them when you post something new on your blog. This keeps people coming back to your blog, which not only gives you more readers over time, it also allows you to build a closer relationship with your readers.
Email marketing is too big a topic to cover well here, so I created a separate guide to email marketing for those who are interested (hint: every blogger who wants more readers needs to read this guide).

2. Social networks

Chances are that you already have a Facebook account, and maybe even a Twitter account as well. So when you post something on your blog, make sure that you also post a link to your blog post on your social accounts.
It also helps to connect with other people interested in your topic. Send a friend request to the top bloggers in your niche and make sure to follow them on Twitter as well.
You may be surprised at just how many people will find your post interesting and then share the link with their friends.

3. Commenting on other blogs

On many blogs you can leave a comment along with a link back to your own blog. If you make useful comments on blogs related to your topic you will be putting your blog right in front of people who you know are interested in your topic.
Caution! Do not abuse this method.
If you are leaving terrible comments on posts just to get your name out there this will only hurt your blog. Furthermore, poor quality comments are likely to be deleted by the blog owner anyway.
If you make a useful comment people are more likely to visit your site, since they will want to hear more about what you have to say on the topic.

4. Link to other blogs

One the best ideas for writing a blog post is to write a response to a post from another blog. This could be a blog post you disagree with, or simply a topic that you have something else to add to.
When you do this, make sure to link to the blog you are responding to. On most blogs this creates what is known as a “trackback”.
A trackback simply means that the blog you linked to will also post a link (automatically) to your blog. This means that anyone reading the other person’s blog post will also see the link to your blog, and hopefully click on it to visit your site.

5. Guest posting

Another way to get readers of other blogs to hear about your blog is to write guest posts.
To write a guest post you simply need to contact other blog owners and offer to write a post for their site.
Not all bloggers are open to this idea, but if you can find a few who are it is a great deal for everyone. You provide them with quality content, and in return you put a link to your blog in your post. If people enjoy your guest post then they are likely to visit your blog for more great content.

6. Online forums

If you haven’t already, you should join popular online forums related to your topic. For example, if your blog is about dog training, join a couple of the most popular dog training forums.
Many forums will allow you to post a link to your site in the signature that goes at the bottom of every post you write. Some forums may require you to make a few posts before letting you do this.
Once you have joined a forum, make helpful posts. Just as with blog commenting, the content of your forum posts needs to be high quality and helpful. People are not going to want to read your blog if they don’t find your forum posts to be helpful and interesting.

7. Frequent posting

The promotion methods above all focus on getting new readers to your blog. This is usually the most difficult step for any blog. However, you also need to make sure that once readers find your blog they come back!
Making new posts frequently (at least once a week, but preferably every 1-2 days), is the key to building up and keeping a large following.
Your content may be fantastic, but if you only post once a month people are likely to forget all about your blog. You have to strike a balance between high quality and high quantity. This is a difficult balance for any blogger to achieve, as it is not always easy to write a high quality post once a day or even once a week.
If you are struggling with finding ideas to write about, make sure to re-read the previous step in this guide.

What’s next?

By now you have learned what you need to know about getting your blog started and getting readers to your site. For some bloggers this is the end goal. They simply want people to read their ideas and have the opportunity to participate in a community of like-minded people.
However, once you have developed a decent following, you can start to make some money from your blog if you so choose. Check out the next, and final, step now to learn how to make money blogging.

Genital Ulcers

What are genital ulcers?

They are sores usually found on the vagina or penis. They can also be found in the anus or on the skin around it. They sometimes hurt or leak fluid.

What causes them?

They are usually caused by sexually transmitted infections, or STIs. These include herpes, syphilis, and chancroid. Genital ulcers may also be caused by inflammatory diseases, trauma, or a bad reaction to skin care products.

Who can get genital ulcers?

Risk factors for genital ulcers are the same as those for STIs. They include unprotected sex, lack of male circumcision, and more than one sex partner. Genital ulcers caused by inflammatory diseases may run in families.

How can I lower my risk?

If you have sex, use a condom or dental dam. Although this decreases the risk, it is possible to get STIs from infected skin not covered by the condom or dental dam.

How do I know if I have genital ulcers?

Genital ulcers may show up in different ways. They sometimes start out as bumps or a rash and may or may not hurt. You may also have swollen glands in the groin area or a fever. Your doctor can test the area to see if you have an STI.

How are they treated?

Treatment depends on the cause of the ulcers. STIs are usually treated with antibiotic or antiviral pills or shots. If you have an inflammatory disease, you may need a shot or ointment to put on the ulcers. Some genital ulcers go away on their own, but may still lead to more serious infection. Your doctor may only treat your pain or take care of the wound, but testing for STI is usually needed.

Where can I get more information?

A beautician kills client with hips injection

An American judge said a British beautician got away with murder when jailing her for a year for killing a TV producer in a botched butt lift.

Donna Francis, 39, gave Kelly Mayhew three injections of silicone she bought off eBay in the basement of her house in New York in May 2015.

But on the third dose, the 34-year-old turned purple and immediately went into shock, dying shortly afterward.

Part of the extradition deal which saw Francis return to the US from Britain meant she could only be sentenced to a maximum of one year in prison.

According to Mail Online, Judge Kenneth Holder said the phrase 'getting away with murder' applied to Francis as he was sentencing her.

She wept in court as she was sentenced.

The judge added: "What (the family) is not getting, in my opinion, is justice. If you have a conscience, this is going to haunt you much longer than the one-year sentence you’re going to serve."

Latrice, the mother of the victim, who was with her for the procedure, begged Francis for help when her daughter stopped breathing but Francis simply packed up her equipment and fled the scene.

Kelly's last words to her mum, who also said Francis got away with murder, were 'mommy, hold my hand'.

The mum and daughter had traveled to see Francis from their home in Maryland, US, and the victim's mother said her daughter had five previous plastic surgeries.

Emergency services found Kelly unconscious at the home in Mayhew and rushed her to hospital, but she died.

Stop biting of finger nails

Onychophagia, or nail biting, is a pretty common habit, affecting an estimated 30 percent of adults, 45 percent of teens, and 30 percent of children.
Nail biting can be caused by stress, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, or just being bored and fidgety and all these can seem harmless, but you should know that it can invite bacteria or fungi infections to enter into the body and blood stream, increasing your chances of contracting a cold or the flu.
1. How nail biting leads to cold and flu
According to the CDC, there are more than 200 cold viruses floating around at any given time. Even though the risk factors for acquiring one include a weakened immune system and/or exposure to someone sick, you can significantly reduce your chances of catching a virus by keeping your hands away from your mouth.
Viruses that cause the flu also flourish on your skin, so wash your hands frequently with soap and water (or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer), and discourage nail biting by chewing gum.
2. How nail biting can harm your teeth
Nail biting can also damage your teeth and gums. The Academy of General Dentistry has found that nail biting can crack, chip, or wear down the front teeth, and also potentially lead to sore gums and gum tissue damage.
You may want to ask your dentist about having a mouth guard which can help you to stop biting your nails—or at least minimize some of the damage it can cause. They may also help to suggest some other techniques to help you quit the habit for good.
