How to advertise your blog

 Article from the BLOGSTARTER.COM

Promoting your blog is where I see the majority of bloggers fail. There are lots of great bloggers out there that no one has ever heard about, simply because they don’t know how, or just don’t want, to promote their blog.
The most important tip I can give you about promoting your blog is to not be shy about telling people about your blog!
I have heard from many bloggers who tell me that they don’t promote their blog simply because they don’t feel it is worthy of promotion. They say things like “I don’t have enough posts yet” or “I need to work on my site design first”.
Don’t do this to yourself! If you have put in the time to setup a great site and with great content, then you need to tell people about it. Be proud of the work you have put in.
So just how do you promote your blog? Well, it turns out the most effective methods of promotion are free!

1. Email marketing

A lot of the other tips on this list are about getting new readers to your blog. But if you want to build a real following you not only need new readers, you also have to keep first-time readers coming back!
This is where email marketing plays a big role. By collecting the email addresses of your visitors (with their permission of course), you can then notify them when you post something new on your blog. This keeps people coming back to your blog, which not only gives you more readers over time, it also allows you to build a closer relationship with your readers.
Email marketing is too big a topic to cover well here, so I created a separate guide to email marketing for those who are interested (hint: every blogger who wants more readers needs to read this guide).

2. Social networks

Chances are that you already have a Facebook account, and maybe even a Twitter account as well. So when you post something on your blog, make sure that you also post a link to your blog post on your social accounts.
It also helps to connect with other people interested in your topic. Send a friend request to the top bloggers in your niche and make sure to follow them on Twitter as well.
You may be surprised at just how many people will find your post interesting and then share the link with their friends.

3. Commenting on other blogs

On many blogs you can leave a comment along with a link back to your own blog. If you make useful comments on blogs related to your topic you will be putting your blog right in front of people who you know are interested in your topic.
Caution! Do not abuse this method.
If you are leaving terrible comments on posts just to get your name out there this will only hurt your blog. Furthermore, poor quality comments are likely to be deleted by the blog owner anyway.
If you make a useful comment people are more likely to visit your site, since they will want to hear more about what you have to say on the topic.

4. Link to other blogs

One the best ideas for writing a blog post is to write a response to a post from another blog. This could be a blog post you disagree with, or simply a topic that you have something else to add to.
When you do this, make sure to link to the blog you are responding to. On most blogs this creates what is known as a “trackback”.
A trackback simply means that the blog you linked to will also post a link (automatically) to your blog. This means that anyone reading the other person’s blog post will also see the link to your blog, and hopefully click on it to visit your site.

5. Guest posting

Another way to get readers of other blogs to hear about your blog is to write guest posts.
To write a guest post you simply need to contact other blog owners and offer to write a post for their site.
Not all bloggers are open to this idea, but if you can find a few who are it is a great deal for everyone. You provide them with quality content, and in return you put a link to your blog in your post. If people enjoy your guest post then they are likely to visit your blog for more great content.

6. Online forums

If you haven’t already, you should join popular online forums related to your topic. For example, if your blog is about dog training, join a couple of the most popular dog training forums.
Many forums will allow you to post a link to your site in the signature that goes at the bottom of every post you write. Some forums may require you to make a few posts before letting you do this.
Once you have joined a forum, make helpful posts. Just as with blog commenting, the content of your forum posts needs to be high quality and helpful. People are not going to want to read your blog if they don’t find your forum posts to be helpful and interesting.

7. Frequent posting

The promotion methods above all focus on getting new readers to your blog. This is usually the most difficult step for any blog. However, you also need to make sure that once readers find your blog they come back!
Making new posts frequently (at least once a week, but preferably every 1-2 days), is the key to building up and keeping a large following.
Your content may be fantastic, but if you only post once a month people are likely to forget all about your blog. You have to strike a balance between high quality and high quantity. This is a difficult balance for any blogger to achieve, as it is not always easy to write a high quality post once a day or even once a week.
If you are struggling with finding ideas to write about, make sure to re-read the previous step in this guide.

What’s next?

By now you have learned what you need to know about getting your blog started and getting readers to your site. For some bloggers this is the end goal. They simply want people to read their ideas and have the opportunity to participate in a community of like-minded people.
However, once you have developed a decent following, you can start to make some money from your blog if you so choose. Check out the next, and final, step now to learn how to make money blogging.

How to add backlink to blogger

If you've set up a Blogspot -- more commonly referred to as a Blogger -- blog for your business, you need to create good content and promote that content to see more traffic come to your blog. One of the ways to get more traffic is through "backlinks," which are links from someone else's blog back to yours. Change your Blogger settings to make those backlinks visible under your blog's posts, then encourage people to link back to your blog.
1. Log in to Blogger with your username and password, then click on the title of your blog from the blog list.
2. Click "Settings," then "Posts and comments." Scroll down to "Show Backlinks" and select "Show."
3. Click "Save Settings" near the top of the page. Your blog is now enabled to show backlinks, when you get them.
4. Comment on other people's sites and include the URL for your blog. You likely read blogs that have a focus similar to your own which you use for reference or to browse for fun. When you show these blog owners that you are an active member of their sites, they're more likely to visit yours -- which in turn can lead them to mention you in one of their future posts.
5. Link back to others' sites. If you want linkbacks, start out by giving some. Visit those sites with similar missions or interests, locate some good content, then refer to that content when you're blogging about a particular topic. If those bloggers have backlink notifications enabled, they'll get an alert when you backlink to them -- which may encourage them to do the same for you.
6. Create valuable content. Your blog -- and your business -- is likely focused on a niche market or a particular subject matter, which attracts a certain type of person. Try to think of ways to appeal to those people and make your content something they'd want to share with others. Create timely posts about holidays, write top-10 lists, or start a weekly feature such as the "recipe of the week" to give readers something authoritative and valuable to share with their own readers.
7. Ask directly. If you have colleagues or associates in your field, ask them up front to put a link to your site on theirs, and offer a link to their site in return. It may seem strange to go begging for a linkback, but it's not uncommon -- in fact, some people pay a lot of money to do it in another way -- it's called advertising.

How to add Audio and Mp3 to blogger post

You have the option to enhance your Blogger site with all kinds of content, including audio clips. With audio, your visitor can hear the sounds that help support the content of your page. If you're a musician, for instance, you can publish your latest song. Blogger gives you access to the "HTML/JavaScript" gadget, which makes it convenient to add the code that publishes your media. After you upload your file to a free Internet host, use the "Layout" page on Blogger to put the audio clip where you want it.

Uploading the Audio Clip

1. You will have to Point your browser to a free online file host such as File Dropper, WikiUpload or zShare (links in Resources).
2. Click the "Choose File" or "Browse" button, and select your audio file from the dialog window that opens. Click the "Upload Now," "Start Upload" or "Upload Images" button to perform the upload.
3. Copy the code that appears in the Link or URL text field.

  9. Review the provided list of contacts who have Twitter accounts and follow the provided instructions to select those you want to follow.
Twitter connects to the service and loads your contact information, matching the e-mail addresses from your list against the e-mail addresses of other Twitter users.

Social networks to use for your blogs to get traffic.

Social Media websites can drive insanely great traffic to your blog if you have a good social media marketing strategy. But it can drive fair amount of traffic if you just submit blog posts regularly to your social media profiles.
Social media traffic is as important as organic traffic from search engines as we can’t rely on Google alone. They continue to push algorithmic updates like Panda, Penguin and who knows the next could be Giraffe.
It means that we must diversify the way we get traffic. I’m going to list the top social media and other websites that you shouldn’t ignore or must use as part of your social media marketing strategy.
I’m NOT going to list all the stupid social media or the so called web 2.0 sites out there as I’m going to focus only on sites that can drive traffic to our websites in one way or the other and not for building backlinks.
Though the traffic quality of social media can’t be matched with that of organic traffic, it is still important. It helps us to keep the bounce rate low which is assumed to be one of the many ranking signals used by Google.

Top 30 Social Networking (& Web 2.0) Sites To Drive Traffic To Your Blog

1. Facebook

Facebook
Facebook has not only transformed the way people the world over connect, communicate and share ideas, pictures, videos and news, it’s made it possible for businesses to get their products across to a mass audience in a sensational win-win manner.
With over a billion active users it’s the largest social networking website. Leverage your Facebook friends and share your blog posts regularly with your Facebook friends and fan base.

2. Twitter

Twitter
Twitter is the second most popular social network (microblogging platform to be more specific). If our content is viral in nature then it can bring instant massive traffic to our blog/website in no time.

3. LinkedIn

LinkedIn
LinkedIn is web’s favorite professional networking website with over 100 million active users. LinkedIn’s traffic quality is better than that of Facebook and Twitter as it is mostly used by professionals who are looking for job or business opportunities.
Also try,
  • LinkedIn Groups — to discover like-minded professionals and join discussions.

4. Pinterest

Pinterest
Pinterest is the biggest thing that happened to social media after Twitter. According to a TechCrunch article Pinterest drives more traffic than Google+, YouTube and LinkedIn combined.
If your blog posts have quality images then you shouldn’t ignore Pinterest. Just pin those images to Pinterest under the right category and it can send quality traffic to you as Pinterest users are known to spend more money than Facebook or Twitter.

5. Google+

Google+
Google+ is Google’s answer to Facebook. Though they call it a social network I wouldn’t call it a social networking website. But that said, it is important to share your blog posts on Google+ as social signals are now used to rank web pages.
And that’s not all! As you probably know Google now gives importance to authors (dubbed as AuthorRank). For that they use data from your Google+ profiles. It means that if you’re popular on Google+ then your blog posts are more likely to be on top.

6. Reddit

Reddit
Reddit succeeded where Digg failed. It’s not the Facebook or a Twitter that killed Digg, Reddit killed Digg. If you write content that’s viral in nature then Reddit can send you instant massive traffic. Just make sure that you use social media timing signals to share the right content at the right time.

7. StumbleUpon

StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon is more or less a social bookmarking platform. It used to send good traffic during my initial days of blogging. I’m not sure about how many active users are there on StumbleUpon but according to Wikipedia they have over 20 million users.
It won’t take more than 5 minutes to share your web page on StumbleUpon and hence it is worth the try. You definitely don’t want to miss even a single opportunity that can send traffic.

8. MySpace

MySpace
MySpace. I’m not sure why this site still exists but I decided to include the same in this list as it was once the most popular social networking site in the world. It even surpassed Google as the most visited website in the United States in 2006.

9. Hacker News

Hacker News
Hacker News is a community of programmers, entrepreneurs, and digital ninjas who share “anything that gratifies one’s intellectual curiosity”.
So you can share your content (or from across the web) and can comment on popular Hacker News threads to promote your blog.
Hacker News is a lot more like Inbound.org except that Inbound.org is all about marketing whereas Hacker News is all about technology.

10. Inbound.org

Inbound.org
Inbound.org is not a social networking website but it can send high quality traffic to your website if you got interesting blog posts that are original.
Inbound.org is a great community of bloggers, marketers and other professionals who love to read and share interesting content.

11. Scoop.it

Scoop.it
Scoop.it is one of the most popular content curation tools. It helps you discover new content based on your interest and you’ll also be able to create your own Scoop.it boards to add content from your own blog. The Scoop.it community will be able to follow your boards and you’ll be able to follow boards by others.

12. Delicious

Not only is it good blogging etiquette, but you may also get lucky and receive a link back. Quality links are a valuable commodity for any site looking to rank higher in search engine results pages.

  5. Give readers the opportunity to subscribe to your blog. Include prominently placed RSS or Feed Subscription Buttons and offer viewers the ability to subscribe to your posts via email when possible. This allows your blog followers to have instant notification of your latest posts without having to periodically check your site for new content.

  6. Use social media to broaden the reach of your blog posts. As a small business, you may be utilizing Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or other social media sites to create connections with potential and current customers. Why not promote your blog content on these sites for even more web exposure? Free programs like Hootsuite make it easy to post links to your latest blog post on all of your social media sites with just a couple of clicks. You can even schedule your posts ahead of time!
