Two siblings got drowned and died

The Deputy Principal of Karema-ini Secondary School in Kiharu Constituency, Murang’a Count, Kenyay and his two sons aged 17 and 12 years old died on Tuesday evening (July 21) after a boat they were travelling in capsized in River Sagana.

Stephen Weru, who was crossing to his farm in Thangathi from Riandira Village in the company of his sons, drowned at around 4pm.

Weru is said to have parked his vehicle on the banks of River Sagana and boarded a boat to take them to the other end of the stream.

While midway, the boat carrying Weru and his children — 17-year-old Collins Weru, a Form Three student at Kianyaga Boys’ High School and 12-year-old Elvis Maina, a pupil at Technology Primary School in Murang’a — capsized.

Divers from Murang’a County managed to retrieve the bodies of Weru and his teenage son at 5pm.

A mission to retrieve the body of 12-year-old Elvis Maina is ongoing.

Bodies of Weru and Collins were taken to a Murang’a hospital morgue.

Bill Gates says he did not invent COVID-19

Billionaire philanthropist Bill Gates on Thursday pushed back against some of the conspiracy theories spreading online accusing him of creating the coronavirus outbreak.

“It’s a bad combination of pandemic and social media and people looking for a very simple explanation,” the Microsoft founder said during a CNN Town Hall interview.

Doctored photos and fabricated news articles crafted by conspiracy theorists – shared thousands of times on social media platforms and messaging apps, in various languages – targeting Gates have gained traction online since the start of the pandemic.

A video accusing Gates of wanting “to eliminate 15 percent of the population” through vaccination and electronic microchips has racked up millions of views on YouTube.

“Our foundation has given more money to buy vaccines to save lives than any group,” Gates said, referring to his eponymous foundation.

He has pledged $250 million in efforts to fight the pandemic, and his foundation has spent billions of dollars improving health care in developing countries over the past 20 years.

Activist Miracle Boyd Female protester losses teeth in chicago

An 18-year-old protester was brutally punched in the face by police, knocking out her front teeth, at a Chicago protest calling for the toppling of a Christopher Columbus statue over the weekend.

On Friday at least 1,000 people gathered around a statue in Grant Park where hordes of police clashed with demonstrators deploying pepper spray and beating people with wooden batons in what witnesses described as a 'bloodiest' protest so far.

Activist Miracle Boyd, 18, had just finished addressing the crowd protesting at the statue when she says she got into an argument with an officer.

When she started to record their altercation the cop allegedly took a swing with his left arm and hit her in the face.

'My tooth was knocked out. I have lip abrasions in my mouth. My teeth hurt really bad,' she said to ABC7.

She added the officer smacked her phone out of her hand and she was hit in the face.

Several videos of that altercation emerged on social media showing Boyd back away from officers before she appeared to get hit in the face and rushed off covering her bloodied mouth.
Boyd, a member of the youth group GoodKids MadCity, said the officers took her phone.

She had graduated from high school last month, was headed to Depaul University in the fall according to a June post by Chicago Public Schools, and was offered an internship with state senator Robert Peters’ office just last week.

A GoFundMe has been started to raise money for her medical bills.

State Sen. Peters slammed the police aggression towards her tweeting: 'I’m sad, angry and disgusted.'

'She’s someone who fights every day for gun violence prevention, who fights for a safe community. And what did she face? Abuse,' he said.
